Whether you're planning a romantic, candlelit dinner or just want to change your diet to arouse your libido, adding some of these foods to your diet (or your lover's) can enhance urges, desire and sexual drive for both of you.
- Phallic fruits and vegetables
- Carrots - An erotic stimulant simply because of its phallic resemblance.
- Bananas - Aside from the obvious phallic shape and lush, creamy texture (considered erotic and sensual), bananas also contain the enzyme bromelain, which is reported to enhance male performance.
- Asparagus - Bridegrooms in the 19th century were given three courses of asparagus due to its perceived abilities as an aphrodisiac. It is high in vitamin E, which is thought to be a sex hormone stimulant.
- Avocado - Although, not technically a "phallic" shape, the Aztec name for avocado was "ahuacatl" or testicle. It is said that the young virgins were not allowed outside while the avocados were being harvested.
- Alcohol - The warm inner glow helps to lower inhibitions and raise self confidence, which will in turn, improve sexual prowess. Champagne, specifically, is called the "drink of love." One must remember, however, that less is more in this case as too much will simply make you sleepy or depressed, neither of which will help in the bedroom.
- Chilies and other spicy food - These foods contain capsaicin, which can heat up your sex life in a couple of ways. Capsaicin stimulates nerve endings to release chemicals that raise the heart rate. This response can release the "natural high" endorphins associated with feelings of pleasure. Cayenne, specifically, dilates blood vessels and increases blood flow to the major organs and throughout the rest of the body. Increased blood flow is particularly important in male performance.
- Caviar - in addition to its pleasant association to wealth and power, which themselves can be powerful aphrodisiacs, caviar is also high in zinc, which can help increase testosterone levels.
- Radishes - Egyptian pharaohs considered them to be a divine aphrodisiac.
- Truffles - Decadent and special simply due to their rarity, truffles also have a rich, musky feminine scent that can arouse both palate and body.
- Chocolate - Long since considered a gift for lovers, chocolate contains the stimulant pheylethylamine, which gives a feeling of well-being, increases excitement and the desire for physical contact. It also contains a sedative, which like alcohol, lowers inhibitions. Hundreds of years ago, some monasteries banned chocolate all together.
- Oysters - Just as champagne is the "drink of love," oysters have long been known as the "food of love." Casanova, to some the ultimate lover, was said to eat dozens a day. Like caviar, oysters are high in zinc, which helps to increase the production of testosterone.
Although medical research stops short of validating the aphrodisiacal powers of these foods, it has shown that many of them are rich in certain vitamins and minerals that can help you maintain a healthy reproductive system - at the very least. However, the "research" done by Casanova and countless other lovers for thousands of years should certainly say something about their ability to boost sex drive.
